About Custard Jelly
Custard jelly is a layered dessert made with prepared jelly on the bottom and thick vanilla-style custard poured over the top, usually mixed with fresh fruits. Once chilled, it sets into a soft but firm dessert that you can eat with a spoon.
I use apples and pomegranates because of my family’s choice, but you can swap them with any fresh fruit as per your choice or your family’s taste.

This dessert is perfect for many occasions, like parties, birthdays, and special occasions. The contrast between cold jelly and creamy custard makes every bite light, sweet, and refreshing.

Key Ingredient Notes

- Jelly mix: This forms the firm, fruity base of the dessert and gives color and sweetness. Any flavor works well depending on what you enjoy most.
- Custard powder: This thickens the milk into a creamy, smooth custard layer that balances the jelly sweetness.
- Milk: Milk creates the rich, soft custard texture. Whole milk works best for creaminess, but low-fat milk can also be used.
- Sugar: Sugar lightly sweetens the custard and helps balance the fruit and jelly flavors.
- Fruits: I use an apple and a pomegranate, you can swap it with a banana, strawberry, or your favourite fruits.
- Water: Try to use hot water to help dissolve the jelly mix properly so it sets firm and clear.

Expert Tips
- Always dissolve the jelly powder completely in hot water so it sets clear and firm without grainy spots.
- Let the jelly layer set fully before pouring the custard on top, or the layers may mix instead of staying clean and beautiful. If your jelly is still not set, kindly wait a few more minutes.
- Mix the custard powder with a little warm milk first to avoid lumps before adding it to the boiling milk.
- Stir the custard constantly while cooking so it thickens smoothly and does not stick to the bottom of the pan.
- Allow the custard to cool slightly before pouring it over the jelly so the jelly does not melt. Touch your finger and check how cool, then go ahead for pouring.
- Chill the dessert long enough for both layers to firm up well for the best spoonable texture and flavor.
How to Store Custard jelly
Custard jelly is very simple to store as usuall you store your favourite drink bottle in the refrigerator same thing applies here also. As you can see, the custard jelly I set in a glass. Same glass keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 days for best freshness and texture.
Avoid leaving it at room temperature for long periods, especially in warm weather, as the custard can soften and spoil faster.
This dessert is best enjoyed cold and fresh, when both the jelly stays firm and the custard remains creamy and smooth.
