Indian style mashed potatoes are a fun twist on the usual mash. They are mixed with onion, green chilies, fresh cilantro, and a little lemon for a fresh and spicy taste.

Ingredients

  • 4 potatoes
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ¼ tablespoon black pepper powder
  • ½ tablespoon cumin powder
  • ½ tablespoon chili flakes
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  • Cut the potatoes into small pieces and boil them for 15–20 minutes, until they turn soft and tender.
  • Drain the water and mash the potatoes until smooth. Always use a masher for these steps while the potatoes are still hot.
  • Add the chopped onion, green chilies, and fresh cilantro, black pepper, cumin powder, chili flakes, and salt to the mash. Squeeze in the lemon juice for a fresh kick.
  • Mix everything together nicely until it looks smooth and tastes flavorful. That’s it your Indian style mashed potatoes are ready to serve!

Notes

  • Mash the potatoes while they are warm so they stay soft and smooth.
  • You can make it less spicy or more spicy depending on what you like.
  • A little squeeze of lemon at the end gives the mash a bright, fresh taste.
  • Best enjoyed warm and fresh, right after making.
