This beef stir fry is a quick and flavorful meal made with tender beef strips, crisp vegetables, and a light savory sauce. It is perfect for busy weeknights and comes together easily in one pan.

Ingredients

  • 10 ounces about 250 gram beef, cut into strips
  • 1 capsicum (sliced)
  • 2 medium onions (sliced)
  • 1 anaheim pepper (sliced)
  • 1 carrot (sliced)
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons corn flour
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons ginger garlic paste
  • spring onion (finely chopped)
  • sesame oil
  • salt to taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • Cut the beef into thin strips. Wash the beef strips 2 to 3 times with clean water. Drain well and place the beef in a strainer so all excess water can dry out.
  • Once the water has completely drained, transfer the beef strips to a bowl. Add 1 tablespoon corn flour, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, and salt to taste. Mix everything well so the beef is evenly coated. Set aside to rest while you prepare the other ingredients.
  • In a small bowl, add 1 tablespoon soy sauce and 1 tablespoon vinegar. Mix well and keep aside.
  • In another bowl, add 1 tablespoon corn flour and 2 tablespoons water. Mix well to make a smooth slurry. Set aside.

Cooking

  • Heat a pan on the stove and add 2 tablespoons oil. Once the oil is hot, add the beef strips. Fry on medium heat for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring often, until the beef is well cooked and tender. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
  • In the same pan, add the ginger garlic paste and saute for about 1 minute until fragrant. Then add the sliced onions, carrot, capsicum, anaheim pepper, and chopped spring onion. Saute the vegetables for 3 to 4 minutes until slightly softened but still crisp.
  • Add the prepared corn flour slurry to the pan, followed by the soy sauce and vinegar mixture. Stir well so everything combines evenly.
  • Add the fried beef strips back into the pan. Mix well and cook for another 1 to 2 minutes. Turn off the heat.
  • Serve the beef stir fry hot with steamed rice, fried rice, or flatbread.

Notes

  • Slice the beef thinly and against the grain for the best texture.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan while frying the beef; this helps it brown properly.
  • Keep the vegetables slightly crisp for the best stir-fry texture.
